Grace Bowen aged 21 County player and member of Droitwich GC, has achieved something that no one from Worcestershire and Herefordshire Ladies County have ever achieved before.
Grace who growing up, has been supported by our County Girls training programme, run by our Girls committee, has reached the final of the English Women’s Amateur Championships held over 5 gruelling days of intense competition at Hoylake GC ( Royal Liverpool), the Open venue where Brian Harman and Rory McIlroy have lifted the Claret Jug.
The championship consists of 2 days of stroke play qualifying on the Tuesday and Wednesday and following a total of 36 holes, the top 32 progress to the match play stages. This event has been staged for 101 years. All rounds were very close and sadly Grace was pipped to the title by the eventual winner Lucy Jamieson ( Heswall GC), the final was played over 36 holes, a mammoth effort.
Grace this is a remarkable achievement and all County ladies past and present are extremely proud of you. CONGRATULATIONS and good luck for the rest of the season.
Congratulations to Maisie, who had a very busy week herself, reaching final qualifying for the AIG Women’s Open on Monday, followed immediately by the English Women’s Amateur Championship, where she reached the match play stage, only to be defeated by Grace in the first round. What a year you are having Maisie.
Also competing were Olivia, Louise and Coralie who all represented themselves, their Clubs and County with great dignity.
We are so proud of you all.
