County Presentation Lunch 15th February 2024
County Ladies and Seniors (Vets) met at The Vale Golf Club for an inaugural lunch to celebrate the many County achievements of 2023.
Guests were able to enjoy a rolling photographic presentation during a two-course lunch, it was good to be reminded of the fun we had during the season and to see that the sun did actually shine…occasionally!
Sally Smith, Vets Captain, started the presentation of the trophies by welcoming everyone; the County Vets trophies were presented by Pat Watkins, retiring Vets President.
Jenny Hartley, County Captain, continued by announcing that a new trophy had been generously presented by Ken Foley in memory of his wife, Yvonne, who is very much missed by us all. It was agreed that the trophy should be presented annually to someone who has devoted their time to promoting girls golf thus ensuring our County Girls enjoy the best experience golf can offer.
Jenny went on to say that Yvonne set the gold standard to which we all aspire, because of this the selection committee agreed the award should be given posthumously to Yvonne. Jeanette, Yvonne’s sister, said she was extremely honoured to receive the award on behalf of Ken and the family. It was, understandably, an emotional moment in the proceedings.
Sue Garforth, County President, presented the County Ladies Trophies and Jenny closed the afternoon by congratulating all the winners. She thanked The Vale for their hospitality and gave special thanks to Sally for being the main organiser!
It was agreed this inaugural event had been a success and that it should become an annual celebration.
