COUNTY MATCH WEEK - A huge success. Well done & thank you to Jenny Hartley, County Captain & Janice Kerr, Tournament Director who along with the fabulous volunteers at Fulford Heath Golf Club, made this event so successful. Every County complimented us on how well everything was run & it was great to see W&H ladies supporting our elite golfers. For more reports & details of the event please see 'County Match Week 'on the website. WE are so proud of our up and coming 'newbies' Amelia, Niamh, Kerry & Louise supported and guided by our experienced players Lucy, Karen, Sarah, Aimee & Grace. What a wonderful example you all set. Well done & we will beat Buckinghamshire in the very near future.

DID SOMEONE SAY-'BEAT BUCKS'? ...2ND TEAM SUCCESS- As I am sure most of you know our County 2nd team consisting of Kerry Hobbs, Lauren Sharp, Kim Pickering, Louise Wilding, Denise Codrington, Coralie Granville & Cath Francis, progressed to the League Final at  Ger ard's Cross GC on 1st August & won by beating BUCKS ! Well done & a good omen for the future.

GIRLS GOLF NEWS -SO MUCH OF IT- COACHING, FUN DAYS, COACHING DAYS, COMPETITIONS & MORE- Well done to you all  - Here is a report from Jenny.

Recent County Girls Successes-

OUR NEW COUNTY CHAMPION IS ROSANNA HALLS with a very neat display of golf, defeating Lili Hunt in the final at Kidderminster GC. As always a fabulous display of how golf should be played, with healthy respectful competition. Well done to you both a credit to the County.

SENIOR COUNTY LADIES-

Overall, this has been a disappointing season for the County Senior Ladies. Several matches have been cancelled and for others our lower handicap players were unavailable, so the matches became that little bit more difficult. May I please ask all low handicap Senior Ladies to make themselves available for 2025, the venues are listed below & we will publish further details in the very near future.

But County Seniors golf is not always about “the low handicap players”.Along with League matches, there are friendly matches where mid & higher handicap ladies can play and enjoy the competition against other counties. All matches are friendly, but competitive. And all are played as a 4 ball better ball format, so there is someone at your side throughout the match. And don’t forget that we get to play some amazing courses. Next year we have matches confirmed at: Handsworth, Stafford Castle, Ludlow and Little Aston. Home matches confirmed at: The Vale, The Worcestershire and Worcester G&CC.

A huge concern for me & the County Committee, is that I have been unable to find someone to take over Captaincy of the Seniors Section for the 2025 season.  Of the many ladies that I have approached all have very valid, personal reasons why they are not able to take over the Captaincy duties. However, this does, leave the County, in a very precarious position. As Captain over the past 2 years, I have found the role, very busy but rewarding.

I would recommend that we might consider a change in structure.

Instead of having a Captain we suggest a small match co-ordinating committee who share the tasks, by running the County Matches , perhaps allocating a Captain for the match & also run the Ladies County Senior Competitions, which are so loved & enjoyed by all.

Our Community Matters & this could be a modern & inclusive way forward.

Please give me or Claire Painter (County Chair) chairman@whlcga.com , your thoughts as soon as possible.

Your county needs your help.

With many thanks,

Sally Smith

County Senior Ladies Captain.

This year’s results can be found in the Senior Ladies Section on the website.

FURTHER CONGRATULATIONS GO TO :-

Sarah Cranton for winning the Midlands, Brenda King Foursomes Competition with her partner Lisa., A fantastic achievement.

Congratulations to all for their many achievements this year.

More details can be found in 'latest news' on the home page.

And so the golf goes on...... WELL DONE TO EVERYONE, IT MAKES THE TIME SPENT ORGANISING EVENTS, VERY WORTHWHILE.

OTHER NEWS......

CLUB VISITS

We have been working hard this summer as a Committee to break down barriers & make our County Golfing Association more inclusive & welcoming. For that reason we have embarked on our programme of Club visits, with a view to meeting more of our affilated lady members & understand from them what they want from the County & hear their voices regarding how we can improve communication & encourage involvement. Thank you to those Clubs, who have invited us, there have been many interesting discussions, we have learned from you & shared best practice. We will share results as soon as possible. Our aim is to build a more inclusive community that people want to be involved in.

If anyone has feedback or would like us to visit, please feel free to get in touch.

Good luck to all those Clubs who have received I Golf funding after submitting their development plans to run a local event. Attracting more Women & Girls into golf at the grass-roots is our focus.

Please don't forget to give us feedback & please send us pictures.
